The Penarth Learning Community has bagged two regional building control awards at the Local Authority awards.

They were successful in categories such as 'most accessible building' and 'best educational building' at the ceremony held at the Vale resort in Hensol. They will now move on to the next stage of the building control awards.

It has also been shortlisted at the Constructing Excellence in Wales awards in four categories including the value award, innovation award and project of the year along with the integration and collaborative working award after co-operation with Ysgol Gymraeg Nant Talwg in Barry. Interviews are set to be held this week.

Jennifer Hill, who is director of learning and skills for the project, said: "Our ambition is that educational outcomes in the Vale are the best in Wales and match those of the most successful authorities in England. So it is great news that the excellence of the facilities provided by the Council to our students and staff has been recognised by these awards as being of the highest quality.”
