PENARTH'S branch of Greggs has been named the 'best in South Wales' by the high street retailer.

The Windsor Road shop beat nearly 100 others in the region to the title.

It has traded in the same location for more than 20 years and it has been rewarded for its excellent all-round performance during the last year including outstanding customer service, sales, profit control and teamwork.

Each shop was awarded points week by week through several criteria before the final stages where there were six unannounced visits by area managers.

Shop manager Sue Taylor has worked for Greggs for five years and was promoted to the role of shop manager in 2014. Sue was previously the assistant manager of Greggs’ shop in Barry.

Sue said: “When our names were called out we were literally speechless. I never imagined we would win.

"We plan on continuing to provide the best possible service for our local customers with a smile on our faces.”

Russell Gower, retail operations manager, said: “This is a brilliant achievement by Sue and her team.

"It’s obvious how much they enjoy serving their local community and how committed they are to delivering the highest operational standards consistently.

"This award celebrates the excellent retail standards the team have created, they should all be extremely proud of themselves, just as we are to have them in our business.

"As part of the company's on-going commitment in Penarth the shop is due to undergo a major refurbishment in early summer."

The staff at the Penarth shop are also about to team up with Ann Lush MBE, a local resident who helps raise money for children in and around the Vale of Glamorgan.

Customers will be able to donate to the local charity via the Greggs Foundation collection bucket in the shop.

Greggs will also be donating products to one of the many fundraising events that Ann organises locally to boost the charity's funds.
