THE headteacher of St Cyres comprehensive has lauded the achievements of the school's pupils in this year's GCSE examinations.

Year 11 pupils are celebrating a set of record breaking results on the back of the school's A-level success the previous week.

St Cyres' GCSE pass rate increased by 12% on last summer and is the highest figure in the schools history standing at 89%.

This represents a 22% increase in the five years since Dr Jonathan Hicks has been in charge at the school.

We spoke to a number of the students after they had picked up the all important information.

Felix Peterken achieved four A*s and seven As in his exams and described himself as "really happy" with the outcome.

Another student, Jack Corsi-Warren said he was "ecstatic" to have achieved the three A*s, seven As and two Bs.

Christoper Georgiou confirmed that he would be staying on for sixth form at the school on the back of his five As, four Bs and one C along with many other students.

Matt Jackson's A*, seven As and 4Bs were a cause for celebration as each of the students thanked the teachers for "doing everything they could to help us out through the year."

The aim now is university in a couple of years time and they feel nothing is holding them back.

Daisy Martin achieved eight 8s and two Bs and said she was "really pleased" with her results adding "everyone seems really happy here today which is great to see."

She sees Maths and Music as her strongest subjects and is looking forward to staying on for sixth form in the next academic year.

Jacob Reid said his strongest subjects had been Maths and science, gaining four A*s, four As and three Bs as he looks forward to continuing his studies at St Cyres.

He said: "The teachers have been great and really helped us to achieve our best."

Jacob has long term goals of becoming a pilot but is staying fully focused on his AS-levels next term for now.

Headteacher, Dr Jonathan Hicks said: "I should like to pass on my warmest congratulations to all our pupils and to publicly thank our tremendously committed and skilled staff for all their hard work this year.

These two wonderful sets of results, plus our excellent Key Stage 3 results, allied to our consistently high attendance figure of 95%, all show that St Cyres School is providing an excellent education for local children."

Dr Hicks added that the school is proud to serve the local community in our superb new building and grounds, and will be endeavouring to achieve even greater success in 2016.

A large proportion of the students are planning to go on to the school's sixth form to study a variety of AS-levels and A-levels.

Enrolment takes place on Friday, August 21 from 9.30am-12pm.
