HAVING heard that the Welsh Ambulance Trust are working with the British Heart Foundation to promote the benefits of public access defibrillators in communities, Dinas Powys WI members decided to fundraise to make this provision available in their village.

It was then agreed to provide a defibrillator immediately as a gift to the community of Dinas Powys to mark the Centenary of the WI Movement.

WI member Chris Poole offered to fund a second machine in memory of her daughter Zoe.

WI ladies will hold a series of events in the New Year to fund cabinets so that the machines may be available 24 hours a day. In the meantime negotiations are underway with a two businesses so that the machines will initially be available during their opening hours.

As ever Dinas Powys WI members have had a busy autumn, celebrating the centenary both locally and with neighbouring Institutes.

Members have visited Jane Hutt AM at the Senedd, and have taken in the autumn colours of Bute Park, entered the Glamorgan WI quiz and enjoyed the Federation of Wales Conference held this year in Cardiff.

Topics at meetings have included the benefits of the internet and the various ways of wearing scarves. In October a harvest supper was enjoyed by all.

Members are now looking forward to kicking off Christmas at the next meeting on Tuesday, December 1.
