THE GREEN party has announced its candidate for Cardiff South and Penarth in May's National Assembly election.

Penarth resident Anthony Slaughter will also be representing the party on the regional list for the South Wales Central region.

Mr Slaughter previously stood as a candidate for the constituency in both the 2012 parliamentary by-election and last year’s general election.

He has been engaged with the Cardiff and the Vale local Green Party for several years and served two terms as the party’s deputy leader in Wales.

Mr Slaughter has lived in Penarth for over a decade and has a long history of involvement in a variety of community projects in the area.

He is currently the chair of local environmental organisation Gwyrddio Penarth Greening and is also active in the ‘20’s Plenty for Penarth’ campaign.

He said: "I am very pleased and privileged to have once again been selected to represent Wales Green Party in my home constituency.

"The Wales Green Party’s surge in membership and public support shows people are tired of business as usual politics in the Assembly.

"We now have a real opportunity to get the elected Green representation that Wales so desperately needs.’

“In these times of environmental degradation, enforced austerity and ever increasing inequality, strong Green voices will bring an end to the stale, cosy politics in Cardiff Bay.

"People I meet across South Wales Central tell me they are ready for real change. We will not allow the next Welsh Government to get away with another five years of good intentions that only lead to muddled delivery, and the same old excuses.”
