AS THE Women’s Institute celebrated their centenary in 2015 the Dinas Powys WI wanted to mark this event by doing something special for the village as a lasting legacy of this celebration.

For their charity event this year the Dinas Powys WI are raising funds to purchase two public access defibrillators and the boxes in which to store them. These will be placed in the Murch and the village centre and available 24 hours per day so that anyone suffering a cardiac arrest would have access to a possible life saving piece of equipment.

The WI are working together with the British Heart Foundation and the Welsh Ambulance Trust.

To help with the fundraising the WI are holding a Defib Coffee Morning at the Parish Hall, Dinas Powys on Saturday, February 20 from 10.30am to 12.30pm, where there will be stalls including BHF and WI, homemade cakes and a tombola, raffle and demonstrations of CPR and defibrillators from the Welsh Ambulance Trust.

Tickets are only £3 each and include a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit and are available from the Dinas Powys Community Council offices of telephone Jill on 07799 402049 or Lynda on 07926025833.

The WI are hoping that the whole village will want to contribute in some way to the purchase of this lifesaving equipment.

The WI are also holding a Fashion Show on April 20 in the Parish Hall and all profit from this will go into the defibrillator fund.
