A SERVICE of thanksgiving to all those who serve at sea will be held in Penarth next weekend.

On Sunday, July 3, the parish of Penarth and Llandough will host their annual Sea Sunday Service on The Esplanade.

It is an opportunity to give thanks for Penarth's RNLI crew and all who serve at sea.

Revd Mark Jones, priest-in-charge of Penarth and Llandough Parish, will be leading an informal service of thanksgiving and blessing in the Italian Gardens.

There will be a short procession at 2.50pm of clergy and RNLI officers from the RNLI boathouse to the Italian Gardens, accompanied by the Salvation Army Band. The service itself will start at 3pm.

Father Mark said: "We will be giving thanks for all those whose work takes them to sea in one way or another, and hope the whole community will join us for this short service."

There will also be readings, hymns and a blessing of the sea.

Refreshments will be available in the lifeboat station afterwards and if there is wet weather, the service will be held in the RNLI boathouse.
