Extracts from the Penarth Times of July 29, 1966:

On Thursday of last week members of Dinas Powys Old Folk's Welcome Club went on a coach outing to Bourton-on-the-Water and Cheltenham.

A Dinas Powys man was honoured by the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society last week when he was presented with a special medallion in recognition of his 50 years' service to the Welsh agriculture.

Pupils of St Alma's and the Holy Family School presented an end of term performance of Hansel and Gretel, by Humperdinck, which was enjoyed by a large gathering of parents and friends in the school hall on July 19. There was also an exhibition of their year's work in Arts and Crafts.

With school examinations now over, the headquarters of 1148 (Penarth ) Squadron Air Training Corps at the Dingle is at present fairly quiet. All organised classes have now finished until September and squadron members for the past few weeks have been preparing for camp.

An application to Penarth council from the local Senior Citizen's Welfare Committee for a grant to cover administration costs was received favourably on Monday.

Sully ladies were forced to cancel their match against Porth Ladies last week as it was not possible to field a team of 12 players because of the absence of so many members on holiday and through illness.

Penarth made a somewhat unspectacular exit from the Carruthers Shield competition last Saturday at Sloper Road when they found Llanbradach bowlers far too strong in every department.

After only two ends of this semi-final game Llanbradach went into the lead which increased to an almost unassailable margin by the half-way stage.

After a run of eight successive victories, Cefn Mably were held to a draw against the BBC at the Athletic Field last Saturday.

Rain, mist (almost fog at one time) and a squally spiteful wind did not deter some 30 dinghies launching for the Sunday morning points race last weekend.

Spectators were treated to some of the fastest and 'hairiest' planing seen at the club for some time.
