A VERITABLE ‘cornucopia’ is the best way to describe the amount and range of fruit, vegetables, herbs, bread and other produce that was on display in the former Church of St Lawrence at Lavernock last Sunday afternoon.
This was a well-attended traditional harvest thanksgiving service in which the Revd Mark Jones spoke of the origins of harvest celebrations and scripture, poetry, hymns and prayers conveyed some of the delights of autumn with its colours and fruitfulness, as well as our responsibility towards those living in countries where the harvest has been poor.
Afterwards, those attending went home with bags of produce, and some £170 was donated towards the upkeep of the former church building. The Working Party who organised the magnificent display and everyone else who brought or lent items deserve a big thank you for their time, effort and skill.
The St Lawrence at Lavernock Trust would also like to thank all who took part in the service, including the readers and the organist, Anne Thomas, who inspired some enthusiastic hymn singing.
