A MAN who was stopped from jumping off the pier has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.
Police were called to Penarth Pier on Saturday, April 1 at 4.36pm after reports that there was a man who was "distressed."
Members of the public then helped police officers in preventing him from jumping off the pier.
A South Wales Police spokeswoman said: "We want to thank those who came to the assistance of the officers and preventing what could have been a tragic incident from happening."
The 41 year old man from the Cardiff area was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and released on bail.
South Wales Police are asking witnesses of this incident to call 101 quoting reference 1700122105.
