THE THIRD instalment of a town centre street food festival will be held at the end of this month.

Picnic Penarth will take place on Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30 in Station Approach.

The event was first held in 2015 with funding from the Vale of Glamorgan Council and the Welsh Government.

It is delivered and managed by Penarth Town Council along with the Vale council.

The town council recently announced that it was looking for sponsors to support the event and CoverBuilder Home Insurance of Plymouth Road have agreed to be the lead sponsors of Picnic Penarth 2017.

Organisers say that last year's event was attended by more than 10,000 people over the two days.

A spokeswoman for the town council said: "We want to make sure that this April is better than ever.

"Thanks to CoverBuilder, we will be able to bring more vendors and more fun to the centre of Penarth.

Rob Rushton, marketing manager at CoverBuilder, said: "We’re really excited to be a lead supporter of Picnic Penarth in 2017, particularly since it takes place on our office doorstep.

"Many of our staff members attended and experienced the amazing atmosphere last year, so it was naturally something we jumped at the chance to support.

"With CoverBuilder hosting an exciting competition over the course of the weekend and knowing what the event organisers have planned, we’re confident that this year’s event will be even better."

With the support of Arriva Trains Wales, a road closure will be in place from the junction of Station Approach and Victoria Road from 6pm on Friday, April 28 and 9pm on Sunday, April 30.

Stewards will be in attendance from 8am on Friday, April 28 to direct drivers to alternative parking and to assist train passengers accessing the station

Information about vendors, timings and music will be revealed in the coming weeks.
