PENARTH turned pink earlier this month when over 30 pink cars departed the seaside town for north Wales, in a colourful convoy that left bemused pedestrians and road users in their wake.

Participants of #South2NorthWales, a fundraising drive to raise awareness and funds for the Little Princess Trust – a charity which provides wigs for children with medical conditions causing them to lose their hair – kickstarted their journey from Tesco in Penarth on Saturday, August 19.

The pink procession later departed to Ty Hafan Hospice for a private visit, where the children were invited to sit in any car of their choice, with the Maserati and BMW M2 proving the most popular.

After leaving Ty Hafan, they continued the drive north up to Llandudno via Haverfordwest, Aberystwyth and Porthmadog across the following two days, raising around £7,000 for the charity.

The money earned doubled the target set for the event and will be enough to fund 20 children's wigs.

While the tenth such event is currently set to be the final Pink Car Rally, there are plans in the works to host another one-off drive next year which would look to take in the entire British coast.

The orchestrator of the Pink Car Rallys, Sali Gray said: "I would like to create a final swan-song next year.

"It is a fact that nowhere in Britain is more than 70 miles from the sea, so I would like to organise a ‘Round the Coast of Britain Pink Car Rally’ and invite pink cars owners to participate as it drives along their nearest coastline.
