PENARTH will be getting new electric vehicle charging points in 2022, the Vale Council has promised.

There will be 18 new charging points across the Vale, with three being installed in Penarth.

There is currently just one charging point in Penarth, outside Penarth Station - but this is only for taxis.

The new charging points will be available for any driver to use.

Charging points will be installed at Albert Road, Cosmeston Lakes Country Park Car Park and Cliff Parade Car Park.

Cllr Bronwen Brooks, deputy leader and cabinet member for sustainable places, said: "The Vale of Glamorgan Council are working to install 18 new electric vehicle charging points for public use across the Vale in 2022.

"The scheme will see three new car park and road-side charging points installed in Penarth, specifically at Albert Road, Cosmeston Lakes Country Park Car Park and Cliff Parade Car Park.

"In addition to the public charging points, there are various points dedicated to taxi use around the Vale, with more currently being installed, including a charging point on Station Approach in Penarth.

"As part of the council’s commitment to Project Zero, the council will continue to work towards making electric vehicle ownership more accessible, reducing CO2 emissions."

There is no fixed date for when the charging points will be installed.
