AN up-and-coming actor from the Vale has received a nomination from a prestigious national drama association for his role in a British cult classic.

Austin Beasley, 10, who attends Dinas Powys Primary School, has received a National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) nomination for Best Youth Individual Performance in a Musical for his role as Nathan Lukowski in Penarth Operatic and Dramatic Society’s (PODS) production of The Full Monty.

Austin’s mum, Jessica Williams, said Austin was “overwhelmed” with the nomination, despite always showing an inclination for the dramatic arts.

“Austin was born to perform, keeping his family and friends entertained from a very young age,” said Ms Williams.

“Being chosen to play the role of Nathan in PODS production of The Full Monty was a dream come true and receiving this nomination has totally overwhelmed him.”

As well as Austin’s nomination, PODS received a further five nominations from NODA, with The Full Monty nominated for Best Musical, and Neil Clevett nominated for Best Individual Performance in a musical.

Austin is continuing to tread the boards with PODS having taken part in their recent panto, The Snow Queen and he is also a member of the newly founded Penarth Operatic and Dramatic Society Youth Section – PODYS.

PODS are currently rehearsing their next two shows – Treasure Island, an adaptation of the Robert Louis Stephenson novel, which is on at The Paget Rooms from 23rd to 25th March, and Chess – the musical which is on from 17th to 20th May.

Tickets for both shows can be booked at www.ticketsource.co.uk/pods.
