FIRE crews tackled a domestic fire in Penarth after a heavy smell hung in the air and a "rain of ash" fell on a fabled rugby field.
While walking their dog near the Old Penarthians rugby ground, a member of the public said it was "impossible not to notice" a "massive" plume of black smoke rising into the air.
They described how they were "treated" to a "stinky smell" and a "rain of ash", which fell from the sky.
South Wales Fire service has now confirmed they sent crews to tackle a domestic fire which started from an outbuilding.
The incident happened on St Garmon Road.
There are no reports of any injuries.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: "At approximately 3.29pm on Tuesday, April 16, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to St Garmon Road to extinguish a domestic fire which started from the outbuilding of the property.
"Crews from Penarth and Cardiff Central attended the scene.
"A stop message was received at 4.27pm."
