A 17-year-old teen has been charged with attempted wounding, affray and possession of an offensive weapon after a man was allegedly threatened with a machete in a South Wales Tesco.

Police originally appealed for information after officers were called to a Tesco in St Mellons, Cardiff, on Tuesday, May 7.

Now, a teen, 17, has been arrested.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "A teenager has been arrested and charged in connection with a disturbance at Tesco in St Mellons, Cardiff.

"Police were called to the supermarket at around 6pm on Tuesday (May 7) to a report of a man being threatened with a machete.

"A 17-year-old boy from Trowbridge, who cannot be named for legal reasons because of his age, has been charged with attempted wounding, affray and possession of an offensive weapon in public

"He is remanded in custody and will appear at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court today, May 10.

"Thank you to those who shared our appeal and contacted us with information."

At the time of the incident, a South Wales Police spokesperson said: "Officers investigating a disturbance at Tesco in St Mellons, Cardiff, on the evening of Tuesday, May 7, are appealing for witnesses.

"CCTV shows a man threatening another man with a machete just before 6pm yesterday.

"There have been no reports of any injuries.

"There were lots of people in the shop at the time and we are aware that the incident may have been filmed on mobile phones."
