WESTBOURNE School is celebrating another impressive set of GCSE results. Students in Year 11 gained an average of 10.5 GCSE passes at Grade A* to C. Leading the way with outstanding individual performances were Jonathan Howells from Sully and Benedict Jackson from Penarth, both of whom achieved 12 GCSEs.

Both said they were very pleased.

“I had hoped I would do well but this was a very nice suprise,” said Benedict who achieved three quarters of his grades at A* and A and will go on to do his A-Levels at Stanwell.

Jonathan, the school’s top performer with 85 per cent of his grades at A* and A, will study A-levels at Howell’s School in Cardiff, said: “It’s nice to see the hard work pay off. My parents are delighted and so am I.”

Nergis Amar excelled in languages, gaining an A* in both Turkish and German and a B in English as a Second Language, results which reflect Westbourne's status as an IBO world school.

Head of School, Ken Underhill, highlighted the active interest and involvement of parents, the dedication and support of the teachers and, above all, the hard work of the students as key factors which contributed to the impressive results. “For a non-selective school to achieve an average of over 10 subjects per pupil with 50 per cent at A*or A grade is most gratifying,” he said.

“I am delighted by the students' success and I am proud of their achievements. They have maintained the academic excellence for which the school is noted and I offer my congratulations to everyone involved.”
