Extracts from the Penarth Times of December 16, 1966:

Penarth householders who have experienced long delays in waiting to pay their water rate at the Stanwell Road office will welcome the news that from January 1 the office will be closed and water rates may be paid at any sub-Post Office in the town.

Highlight of Penarth's Christmas Festivities is the parade and arrival of Father Christmas in the town centre at 3pm tomorrow. This year the procession takes a new route.

Abergavenny achieved the double against Penarth last season. But an excellent team performance by the Seasiders at Abergavenny last Saturday saw the visitors notch a fine victory.

Last Saturday the rugby pitch at the Athletic Ground was declared unfit for play for the second successive week and Penarth's home game with Cross Keys was cancelled.

The supporters who turned up were indignant when they heard that the match had been called off as the pitch, though soft, was well clear of surface water and appeared to be definitely playable.

The weather earlier in the week took its inevitable toll on Saturday last and the Stores Field, Risca, although appearing in fine fettle, ultimately proved to be sticky and heavy in the extreme for the visit of Old Penarthians.

Penarth ran riot against a weak Ynyshir side last Saturday, winning 9 - 1. After leading 3 - 0 at half time they played some of their best football of the season in the second half to totally annihilate the opposition.

Penarth's bid to unseat Roath from the number one position in the Cardiff Stadium League last week failed by five shots.

At first it appeared as if Roath would overwhelm their challengers, but a determined fight back by the Penarth men narrowed the margin established early in the game.
