A FORMER St Cyres pupil will take to the stage in London as Sleeping Beauty this Christmas.

Lorna Sullivan, 21, secured the lead road in the pantomime-favourite following a series of intense auditions.

The show, at The Broadway Theatre in Barking, is Lorna’s first professional acting job – and she was offered the role just six months after graduating from London’s Urdang Academy.

Speaking backstage during a break in rehearsals, she said: “It’s very exciting.

“To get a lead role in a big production like this, particularly for someone as young as me, is amazing.

“It’s been pretty hectic during rehearsals but we’re almost ready now.

“This will hopefully give me a foot in the door for more theatre work in the future.“ Lorna’s family still live in Dinas Powys, and she was quick to praise the role they played in helping her to achieve her dream – particularly her grandfather, who died last year.

“My family have been so supportive and I’d like to thank them for that," she said.

“My gramps, Norman, would have been so pleased.

“I did it for him.”

Lorna’s dad, Brian Sullivan, was looking forward to seeing his daughter on stage when the show opened yesterday (December 4).

“Lorna’s done so well to get her first professional job, but she’s had to work hard for it," he said.

“She’s a talented girl.”
