A PENARTH mum is celebrating a big bundle of joy this holiday season - after giving birth to a baby boy on Christmas Day.

Anouska Leckie, 30, was overjoyed when baby Nathaniel arrived at 5.12am on December 25.

It is thought little Nathaniel was one of the first babies to be born in Wales on Christmas Day 2008.

Mrs Leckie, and husband Richard moved from Penarth two years ago and now live in Princes Street, Barry.

The happy couple had been waiting longer than expected for the big day.

Nathaniel, who weighed in at 8lb 3.5oz, was actually due on December 16.

And his festive arrival sparked celebrations at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital as staff and patients visited the newborn.

“Everyone made such a fuss of Nathaniel,” said Anouska.

“There was another woman who they thought would give birth on Christmas Day - but I pipped her to the post!

“The staff decorated his cot with silk drapes and really made us feel special.

“Visitors and patients were coming up to have a look at him.

“He became known as the Christmas Baby!

"I was moved to a different ward on Boxing Day,” she added “But he was still the centre of attention – it was lovely.”

Hospital staff also delivered presents including a baby bouncer and a Christmas stocking.

Anouska’s mum, Kerry Osbourne, of Gainsborough Road in Penath, said: “He was a big star.

“The hospital staff made Nathaniel the centre of attention, they were so kind.”
