A BUILDING company from Sully has won a prestigious construction award for its work on a Penarth house.

Goldsworthy Homes Ltd scooped the ‘New Single Dwelling’ accolade at the recent Vale of Glamorgan Building Excellence Awards.

The project involved construction of a five-bedroom house on Clive Place in Penarth - a scheme that also secured the developer the Penarth Society’s inaugural Civic Enhancement Award in 2009.

Goldsworthy Homes Ltd, a family-run business that has been established for 15 years, will now represent the Vale at the Welsh regional finals in Cardiff on March 5.

Managing director, Adam Goldsworthy, said: “The house on Clive Place was a new-build, but because of strict conservation rules it had to replicate an original post Victorian house in all details.

“This was a challenge in itself.

“There was much opposition against the original planning approval as neighbours doubted it would be in keeping with other properties in the area.

“In the end we built a super house - far better than was expected - and won plaudits from the neighbours and planners.”

Goldsworthy Homes Ltd’s work will now be put forward to the south Wales region of the Building Excellence Awards, and if successful could then represent Wales at the national awards later this year in London.
