PENARTH Explorer Scouts practise the age-old Scout skill of pioneering, using wooden poles and rope to build things.
During the winter they have been building small bridges using newspaper, sticky tape, marshmallows and pasta.
And on Friday night they went full scale, building a rope bridge, with older Scouts instructing new Scouts in the art of tying notes called lashings.
The bridge had a span of around 30 feet, and held up very well. The leaders only checked that the bridge was safe to use, and did not help build it at all.
