THE 23RD Vintage Motor Cycle Club Seaside Run took place recently and attracted more than 70 entrants.

These lovingly restored and cared-for machines were admired by the public at each stop along the route, with the start and finish at The Oystercatcher, Penarth Marina.

The club is indebted to the manager and staff who allowed the use of their car park.

The event was a great success and thanks go to the organiser Geoff Harris, ably assisted by his wife Helena and Carol Jayne.

Penarth Town Mayor, Cllr Anthony Ernest paid tribute to the club and its members for their work in maintaining this part of our national heritage, and for providing a nostalgic attraction for Penarth and the Vale.

Cllr Ernest made the following presentations: The Welsh Water Trophy for Best Pre-war car went to a 1935 Alvis Firebird Tourer owned by Paul de Geus.

The Best Vintage Motorcycle was Dave Danielsen's 1930 Royal Enfield Model K, a 976cc v-twin.

The Best Post Vintage Motorcycle was a 500cc 1941 Indian Scout (as used by the US military), owned and ridden by Kevin Gilbert.

The award for Best Non-British Motorcycle went to Tony Davies's 1969 Suzuki GT750.

During the day the drivers and riders were invited to look at other machines and vote which they deemed the best.

That Drivers' Vote went to a 1984 Pembleton 3-wheeler with a hand crafted body owned by Jonathan Apsee, who was also awarded The Brian North Trophy for Best Three Wheeler, including motor cycle combinations.

The riders' choice of Best Bike went to Howard Long's 1955 Triumph Thunderbird.
