I OWE Gordon Brown an apology. Going back a while in this newspaper I criticised him for his contribution as a prime minister of the UK and his lack of attendance at the House of Commons (which is still true) since the last election. To me he has always come across as a dour humourless person with no aspirational qualities at all.

Wow was I wrong. Seeing him in the lead up to the Yes/No vote in Scotland he was a different person. He was warm, endearing, funny and inspiring. His speech in Glasgow on the eve of the poll was I think the most important and inspirational and I think swayed a huge amount on the ‘don't knows’ in the whole campaign.

Why on earth didn't he show these qualities when he was leading this country when he was prime minister? During the campaign he was streets ahead of any politician in the campaign, including Cameron, Clegg and Milliband.

I say BRING BACK GORDON. You never know I may even vote for him!
