AS A former Labour councillor who left the party to join Plaid Cymru, the Party of Wales, I was appalled by the way Labour MPs voted on the Conservatives public spending cuts.

A total of 517 MPs voted in favour with only 20 against.

Those voting against were Plaid, SNP and Green MPs with a few left-wing Labour MPs from England.

Not a single Labour MP from Wales voted against the Tory cuts.

I recall Labour campaigners promising that they would fight Tory cuts and cannot understand why they have changed their minds and fallen into line with the Government’s austerity programme.

The people of Penarth and the rest of Wales have been deceived and let down.

What would Keir Hardie, Aneurin Bevan and other Labour MPs of the past in Wales have made of Labour supporting the Conservative plans to cut public sector spending?

They would have realised how devastating such cuts can be for on our communities, and it is regrettable that today’s Labour MPs seem to have lost their way.
