CLOSE to where I live is a lane where various shops situated at the bottom of Glebe Street have in place several large rubbish containers on wheels.

The idea of these containers is to keep the lane free of rubbish, but over the past six weeks one container has been full up and there are piles of disposed rubbish. This situation has been reported by myself and by shops adjacent to the lane.

Despite these calls to the Council, the complaints seem to be falling on deaf ears. No one it seems is taking responsibility for moving this mess or ignoring callers on the matter.

If the weather was warmer there is no doubt about it being a health hazard as it would begin to smell and attract flies. There have been reports of rats seen close to this eyesore by people in the area.

What others and I would like to know is when is this disgusting mess going to be moved, worse still is that it is only a few feet away, although hidden from view, from the new food outlets opened in the town recently and not so recent.

The fact that its slap bang in the centre of town should be an embarrassment to the council, but we can venture the thought that if it was anywhere near the Council offices in Barry that it would be dealt with? As the saying goes, out of sight out of mind.
