I HAVE a good opinion of the chain of food shops, Greggs. As will be known to many of your other readers already their branch in Windsor Road, Penarth has just undergone a major refit.

It was closed for a week or two while the work was done.

I have been an occasional customer of the Penarth shop, both for the sweet and the savoury products. Some of us may dislike the EU and the rub of Brussels, but Belgian buns there are most appetising. Then there are the savouries, which are also affordable.

Incidentally, I have visited several other Greggs branches in Cardiff and even in Sussex in the last year or two. Some of them enable food to be consumed on the premises - as will now be the case with the Penarth Greggs.

So the refit was not just cosmetic, but functional.Where refits - of banks, building societies or pharmacies - are only to prettify the premises, I have reservations because of what must be the high cost of these refits.

There typically quite a few men employed - at least half a dozen - in uniform, coloured jerseys, plus other artisans, and some three or four vehicles.

The layout of the Greggs store Penarth was in my view sub-optimal. It now not only looks better but is more functional with a better utilisation of the space available.
