I WAS a little surprised by some of the 'Senior citizens face Christmas dinner cutbacks as Vale Council reduces food funding' article in that the Council's cut are not unexpected, given the pressure of finances, but more importantly that £3 per head was not considered enough to cater for dinner.
I am very aware of what the costs are as we currently provide meals and desserts specifically designed for senior citizens to lunch clubs and day care centres in and around the Vale at an average price of around £3 per head. Organisers of the lunch simply have to regenerate the meals in a standard oven and serve.
I am also aware that many of the churches and charities in the area (some of which we are working with) are doing a sterling job in picking up the shortfall and I have no doubt that no one will go short this Christmas as a result of the cuts.
