I REFER to councillor Anthony Ernest’s letter (Penarth Times May 19) regarding bus routes around Penarth.

I agree costing must be taken into consideration but I do not agree that there are bus routes “around Penarth”. The summer bus service from the town centre to the seafront is not available to everyone and some areas have no service at all.

I live in an area serviced by NAT service 89B which goes to the seafront, the barrage and the bay but runs every two hours and if one bus does not run for any reason that is four hours for the next bus. Also, this service does not run in the evenings, Sundays and Bank Holidays when people are home from work.

The gardens area is served by service 93 but this also does not run in the evening, Sundays or Bank Holidays. My daughter wanted to attend evening classes at St Cyres School but could not because there is no bus service along Redlands Road. This is totally unsatisfactory.

The Castle Avenue/Cedar Way area has a bus every 15 minutes (service 92) which travels along Stanwell Road which is also serviced by services 94 and 95A. Some of these services could be re-routed along Victoria Road instead.

I understand that these service are handy for the health centre, but what about other surgeries? I am not registered at the health centre so have to walk to mine.

A few years ago, the buses were re-routed along Victoria Road while gas works were carried out. Oh, the selfishness of some people who had to walk a little way to the health centre.

I know it is not nice if you are poorly but like I said, I have to walk to mine. I notice that there is now a service for people living at the top end of Penarth. This is good for the people in the new houses that are now being built but no service provided when the poor people lived in the notorious Bill Banks.

There is no need for extra bus services, just share out what there are more fairly.
