HOW many Penarth Times readers does it take to walk a million steps?

Actually, you might be surprised to find out that just one person can do this over the space of three months.

That’s right, we’re asking your readers to join Diabetes UK Cymru’s new challenge to take one million steps each in July, August and September and to get sponsored for their efforts.

Taking a million steps over three months may sound like a lot, but it works out as roughly 10,000 steps a day, which is the minimum amount recommended to stay in good health.

You don’t just have to walk your way to the grand total – other activity counts too, so you can find the best way that suits you to shape up this summer. Healthy competition is also a great motivator so why not challenge family, friends or colleagues to get the highest number of steps?

Money you raise through sponsorship will help us to fund vital research into diabetes, campaign on key issues, and support the 183,000 people in Wales who are living with the condition.

Walking is a great way of keeping fit and active, and can help you to maintain a healthy weight which is key to reducing your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Getting plenty of exercise and eating healthily can also help people with diabetes to manage their condition well.
