VALE of Glamorgan officials stated last week the full financial value to them of the land transaction for the former Bryneithin care home in Dinas Powys was £796,027.74. The developer puts it, all in, at just less than £1.1 million.

Whatever the figure, it certainly was not ‘less than £120,000’, the figure inappropriately inferred by the headline story in a locally distributed Plaid Cymru leaflet. That’s like saying a suit cost £25 but in reality it’s just for the material. Before the suit can be worn it will cost another £500 for it to be tailored.

The tender documents made it clear the other figures, including for the Vale to build affordable housing elsewhere, formed part of the bid in which Portabella were the successful applicants.

What concerns us is that once informed, rather than recognise the serious error of their ways, Plaid preferred to play party-politics.

The Conservatives did not support any other political party, or developer. We just drew attention to the facts in their proper perspective. Perhaps Plaid would have preferred we support their misleading statements?

Conservatives prefer not just the truth, but the whole truth.

We would all have liked Bryneithin to remain. But that doesn’t give anyone the right to play with the truth and infer some kind of cheap deal had been given.
