IN SEPTEMBER last year, I received a letter from the Vale council advising me that it was proposed that 56A Windsor Road, Penarth – the former Andrew Smith garage – should be demolished.
Further, it was anticipated that the demolition works would start on October 16, 2016.
A full four months has elapsed since then, and work has not yet even started.
I have mixed feelings about the delay. On one hand, the demolition work, spread no doubt over several days, will be noisy and, temporarily at least, untidy.
On the other hand, the site is looking increasingly derelict and increasingly an eyesore each day that passes.
One could also have legitimate anxieties about what will be built on the eventually cleared site, and how the future business will impact on residents. Parking is already very problematic for example.
Presumably, it is the lack of current development propositions which is holding up progress.
I have not seen any reported statements on this subject by either the Vale council or any other parties.
Should we (who live very close to the site) not be informed?
