HAVING visited the Chapter Arts Centre in Canton, Cardiff, on many occasions, I am very impressed with the way that they have utilised their space to provide interest and entertainment to the general public.

There are two cinemas, which are well organised and well used. Art space and exhibitions are in abundance.

There is a good reception area handling bookings and queries.

Visitors wishing to purchase drinks can visit the cafe or bar. Hot food and snacks are available, cooked and prepared on the premises.

There is an outdoor garden, where you can have a light lunch or a leisurely drink.

The staff are efficient and friendly. All in all, a very pleasant and well-run venue.

Compare this with the Pier Pavilion.

A large open space where nothing of interest seems to happen. I have visited the cinema four times and twice the film was unable to be shown due to technical difficulties. Very disappointing.

The cafe is in a prime spot, opening out on to the pier.

The spiral staircase leading to the upstairs area had to be demolished due to health and safety concerns.

Now the cafe is due to close for three days a week. What a shambles. All that money from the Lottery Fund going to waste.

Come on Penarth, wake up and do something – otherwise there will be nothing left to attract any visitors to our seaside town.

Take a leaf out of the Chapter Arts Centre and make things work.
