A MOTHER and daughter have been inspired to take part in a charity skydive after their family was struck by cancer twice.

Dinas Powys’ Andrea Crompton, 42, and daughter Katie, 18, will complete the 13,000 feet skydive in aid of Cancer Research Wales in July this year.

Last year Andrea’s father was diagnosed with prostate cancer, while four years ago her father-in-law was also struck with bowel cancer.

Bryn Hafren pupil Katie, of Cardiff Road, said that their family’s battle with cancer had made them want to raise money for charity and help others that had been affected it.

“Both of my grandparents have had cancer and its had a big impact on our lives,” she said.

“We just wanted to help people and do something positive.”

Katie, of Cardiff Road, added: “I have always wanted to do a skydive but I’m scared of heights and am absolutely petrified!

“When they get me up in that plane someone is going to have to push me out of there.”

Mum-of-three Andrea, who works at Tesco in Penarth Marina, said that she had always wanted to complete a skydive and that her family’s recent battle with cancer had inspired her to raise money for charity to help others that had been affected by it.

In under a week they have already raised more than £200 and have set themselves the target of filling in all their sponsorship forms.

So far they have left sponsorship forms at the Merrie Harrier and Cross Keys pubs, Ironing 4 U in Dinas Powys, Cut & Styled hairdressers in Penarth, and Penarth Rugby Club.

They will also be collecting donations at Tesco, at Penarth Marina, on March 14 and March 15.
