AN ELDERLY man arrested yesterday following an incident in Dinas Powys has been charged with murdering his neighbour.
South Wales Police have confirmed that 73-year-old Alan Rogers has been charged with murdering 76-year-old Fred Hatch at Fairoaks Sheltered Housing yesterday (Wednesday, October 8) morning.
Mr Hatch was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff with serious injuries following the incident and died this morning.
DCI Ceri Hughes of South Wales Police said: "We are very keen to reassure the community after yesterday's events that this was an isolated incident, however we do appreciate that it no doubt caused concern for residents in the Fairoaks area.
"We would like to thank the local community for their assistance and understanding whilst we have been carrying out our investigation. Officers are supporting Mr Hatch's family at what is clearly a very distressing time for them."
