A PENARTH trader that battled through 13.1miles in the Cardiff Half Marathon has thanked all his customers for their support.

Mike Spencer, who owns Spencer's cobblers on Windsor Terrace, completed the race with his daughter Alex in aid of the children's helpline Childline on October 5.

It was his first attempt at a half marathon and the furthest he had ever run.

"My very sincere thanks and gratitude to my customers who came into the shop, offered their congratulations and sponsored me donating to such a worthy cause," he said.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the marathon and the great atmosphere from the supporters."

He added: "I got to about nine and a half miles and the knees started hurting, but I knew after the training I did I was going to complete it.

"Then from about 11 I thought it was not long to the finish, and of all the donations we received, which helped me finish the race.

"I'm glad I did it and am now thinking of running it next year too."

Mike and his daughter Alex have now raised a total of £515.50.
