PENARTH Pier Pavilion opened its doors almost a year ago and has since become a thriving arts venue, visitor destination and community hub. This work could not have been achieved without the support of its members.

The oldest and youngest members of Penarth Puer Pavilion, Bill Ledbury, 96, and Gina Robinson, eight, have spoken about why they became members and the benefits that it brings.

Bill said: “I came down for one of the first community meetings at the end of May 2013 and I’ve been involved ever since. Older people can often feel lonely and having a place to come for a few hours is really important; I want to support that. I like to sit in the cafe and admire the view.”

Gina picked three words to describe the Pavilion as ‘fun, peaceful and nice’ and recommended being a member “because it feels good coming down here as you are part of the community. I like the cinema because it’s not too big and my favourite film I’ve seen here is Muppets Most Wanted.”

Pavilion members receive two complimentary cinema tickets, 10 per cent discount on Pavilion merchandise, cafe and bar purchases, free members’ screenings and regular updates on events and activities.

The Pavilion is run by a registered charity, Penarth Arts and Crafts Limited, and all profits made at the Pavilion support the building and all of its programmes.

Pavilion Director, Doctor David Trotman, said: "We are dedicated to engaging with the local and wider community through the arts and the environment and as a social enterprise, our revenue goes towards funding our educational programmes. Your support through membership is vital and we are so grateful to the support of our existing members."
