A LAVERNOCK Park resident is appealing for someone to help solve where a mysterious “droning” noise is coming from.

The woman, who did not want to be named, said she had lived on the Cosmeston Drive housing estate for 11 years but had only started hearing the noise around six months ago.

The noise is described as like a low plane or motor boat and can be heard by some people, but not others. Several of the woman’s neighbours have also reported hearing the noise.

The Vale council’s environmental health department, the water board and the electricity supplier Western Power have all been baffled by the noise and unable to detect where it is coming from.

They have assured her that the noise is not coming from the water, gas, electric or any nearby substations. Tests were also carried out at the Harvester restaurant on Lavernock Road, but that was proven not to be the source of the noise.

“If anyone else can hear it I would like them to get in touch,” said the woman.

“Some people describe it as like a humming or droning noise. Sometimes it’s really quite loud, but other days it’s quite low.”

She added: “If your range of hearing can pick it up you hear it all day, every day.

“If you can’t hear it it’s not in your range and you are very lucky.”

The woman has tried a number of methods to drown out the noise.

“I have been wearing ear plugs and putting the radio on to counteract it,” she said.

“Because I can hear it it’s not easy to forget about it.

“You can get used to humming. I used to live next to a railway line, but I’m not getting used to this as I can’t forget about it.”

She added she believed it could be some sort of power surge running under her house.
