PENARTH'S popular Christmas Tree Festival returns St Augustine's Church on the weekend of December 5-6.

The festival is celebrating its fifteenth year and the 2014 event saw nearly 2,500 people attend over the two days.

It supports three charities every year and this year those being supported in 2015 are 2Wish Upon A Star, the Anita Goulden Trust and Thrive, Cardiff.

This year's edition will see at least 50 trees entering which exceeds last year's total of 41.

After breakfast with Santa Claus, a procession will make its way to the church where the festival will begin.

Andy Davidson is the chairman of the Penarth Christmas Tree Festival.

He said: "There is now a waiting list for entries because the church can only accommodate a certain number of trees.

We have a full programme of music and Vision 21 will be providing a tree made with timber from the pier ballroom."

The Cardiff based vocational training company have contributed "spectacular trees" in the past and are set to continue their support of the event.

Last year, Albert Primary provided a tree based on the famous Christmas football matches played between soldiers on the front line in World War One.

The Festival is open between 11am-5pm on the Saturday and 12pm-5pm on the Sunday.

Admission is £3 for adults, £2.50 for concessions and children go free. All of the proceeds are donated to charity.

Mr Davidson is extremely grateful to local businesses, organisations, schools, charities and individuals for their "fantastic support."
