TRAINS to and from Penarth were cancelled on Friday (August 12) because of a shortage of drivers.

The Arriva Trains Wales service between Rhymney and Penarth was affected during the busy early morning rush hour.

A spokesman for Arriva Trains Wales confirmed that a "couple" of early morning trains were cancelled due to a shortage of train drivers.

He said: "This included the 7am service from Rhymney to Penarth.

"A rail replacement bus service was provided on the Rhymney line and the earlier and following services had extra capacity.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused to our customers."
