A CHRISTMAS fair in Penarth raised more than £1000 to help young people in Lesotho.

Penarth and District Lesotho Trust (PADLT) held the event last Saturday (November 26) in Stanwell Road Baptist Church Hall.

More than £1,100 was raised at the fair which was attended by the mayor of The Vale of Glamorgan and more donations still coming in.

The trust was encouraged by the volume of support received which they say was a reward for the quality of the creative crafts offered as well as the cakes made by trustee Suki Flynn who organised the fair.

PADLT has supported TY Junior Academy in Lesotho for over a decade and has helped in the erecting of buildings for dormitories, classrooms, a library as well as a hall and a kitchen.

While continuing the support for the school, another place in the town of Teyateyaneng has come to the trust's attention as being in need of help.

This is the St Cecilia Orphanage run by Father Augustine.

The trust has started directing funds to assist in a building project for a home for teenager mothers which Father Augustine is building.

This enterprise impressed the young people of PADLT Youth in their recent visit to Lesotho,

Tracey Graham, one of the present trustees, went on that trip as one of the drivers.

A spokesman for PADLT said: "The work of the PADLT continues as further needs are identified in Lesotho, the twin country of Wales.

"This still excites the trustees and, hopefully, the people of Penarth whom are thanked sincerely for their continuous support."
