A MAN is set to run 30 half marathons in 30 days to raise money for cancer research.

Jon Turtle, of Wordsworth Avenue in Penarth, is taking on the challenge because his dad is currently undergoing treatment for bowel cancer.

Mr Turtle, who owns a wedding photography business, aims to raise £1,000 for Cancer Research UK by running about 400 miles in a month.

His family member began the treatment three or four weeks ago but is said to be doing well.

Mr Turtle said: "It was there for five years but there were no symptoms.

"We as the family wish we could do something to help."

Mr Turtle completed the Ironman Wales challenge last year and said he wanted to do something big enough so people can see how important the cause is.

His first run will be on February 1 and his last on March 2.

He will run seven different routes, all starting and finishing at the Cancer Research UK shop on Stanwell Road as he wanted to keep it local.

The routes will take in the coastal path, Cardiff half marathon route, Cardiff Bay the Taff Trail and Cosmeston Lakes.

Mr Turtle said: "Preparation is going well and I am working with the coach who helped me through the Ironman Wales.

"But it takes a lot out of you and is a very hard thing to do.

"But I am eating well and keeping on top of things.

"I would love people to get involved however way they can whether it's running with me or coming out to support.

"If we can help someone else going through this then that would be great."

He has already raised more than half of his target which he said is great considering he has not even started.
