A MILITARY fundraising day to raise awareness of Penarth's Ex-Servicemen's Club has been hailed a success.

The army 104 regiment artillery gun was parked outside on Windsor Road at the event on Saturday, September 9.

Young people were able to about first aid and do obstacle courses upstairs with the RAF scouts while down stairs there military displays from the Royal Navy Clearance Divers Branch through the years plus Bruce Wallace displayed his fathers army journals throughout the Second World War.

The charity Bullies Out was also in attendance on the day.

There was also a performance from the Scottish association of Welsh pipers band in the presence of Police Inspector Gary Smart.

Paul Galsworthy, Ex-Servicemen's Club committee chairman said: "Sergeant Gareth Stokes did the Ex Servicemen's Club proud with a regimentally precise day and the crew from 104 regiment were great ambassadors for the army with the recruitment team who nearly had me signing up."

The evening included performances from Digger and Bob and the Elvis twins all themed around the 1940s with all staff getting involved with fancy dress and looking after customers.

The club is now looking ahead to hosting the Remembrance Sunday marchers through the town in November with a similar themed evening of remembrance and memories.

"Thanks also to Andy's wife for selling raffle tickets, Sarah for the cakes, Alice Walbank for the craft stall as well as Andy and Fi for working so hard behind the bar.

"Thanks to the recruiting team from 104 Regiment Royal Artillery and ladies that did the buffet."
