PENARTH and Dinas Runners were crowned winners during the Llanelli Fusion 5k race on the weekend.

Lisa Cleary, Andrea Hurman and Lindsey Hunt were crowned the first women’s team after accumulating the most points in the race.

They were presented with their medals on the winner’s podium after the race on Sunday, August 11.

During the awards ceremony the men’s team were also crowned third overall and were presented with their medals, before a recount led to them being demoted to fourth and Neath Harriers promoted to third.

The race formed part of the Welsh 5k Championship, as well as the club championship for the Penarth running club.

The men’s and women’s races were run separately, with a total of 94 men and 50 women taking part in the race.

Richard Jackson-Hookins was the first Penarth runner to cross the finish line in 34th place in a time of 18.23.

Ian Warburton was next with 20.20.

Chris Seal, who took over 30 seconds off his PB, finished seconds behind him in 20.24.

Nick Jones, in his first attempt at racing 5k, finished in 20.51.

In another close finish Malcolm Bradley was just behind in 20.57.

Marc Durkin took over 10 seconds off his PB with a time of 22.12.

Rhodri Evans finished in 23.02.

In the women's race Lisa Cleary was tenth overall, fourth in her age category and the first woman from Penarth to cross the finish line in 20.55.

Andrea Hurman was next in 21.55.

Lindsey Hunt was next in 23.42.

Penarth and Dinas Runners meet every Monday at Cosmeston Leisure Centre, by the visitor centre, at 7pm. From September 2 they will be meeting at Penarth Leisure Centre.
