WITH the Cymru Kitchen winter break approaching, the tennis players at Penarth Windsor will be hoping that turkey and festive cheer will serve as a suitable replacement for high-quality tennis and strong league performances.
The men’s 1st team expected another tough season with their depleted squad but have been making an excellent fist of things. Dan James and Jason Richards were simply too strong for the visit of Cowbridge and dispatched of the 2nd and 1st pair 6-4, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-1. Unfortunately, Dan Hughes and Morgan Williams suffered a disappointing day at the office falling 6-1, 6-0 and 6-4, 6-2 to leave Windsor with only a draw.
The mixed doubles 1st team are enjoying their inaugural season and the latest chapter was a convincing victory over Llanelli. Dan James and Nicky Ritchie completed half the job, with only four games dropped, and Dan and Lowri Hughes saw to the other half with 7-5, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-3 victories to give Windsor the whitewash win.
The Christmas sherry will be tasting especially sweet for the ladies' 2nd team who have reached the halfway stage of their season top their league table with an undefeated record. Cathy O’Doherty and Clare Jones were joined by Elin Rowlands and Annabel for the last fixture of 2013 and their status as ‘the team to beat’ was further emphasised with four straight set wins against the David Lloyd outfit.
