Welsh rugby chiefs and the four regional teams will put politics aside and broker a resolution to their bitter feud, according to ex-Cardiff coach Dai Young.

Wasps boss Young has backed the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) and Regional Rugby Wales (RRW) to "do the right thing" to preserve their current domestic set-up.

The Ospreys, Scarlets, Newport Gwent Dragons and Cardiff Blues are refusing to sign a new participation agreement with the WRU, with a breakaway to a new Anglo-Welsh league widely mooted.

The WRU's continued endorsement of the Heineken Cup is at loggerheads with the regions' aim to join the English-led rival European competition, the Rugby Champions Cup.

Former Wales prop Young remains unfazed by the dispute, suggesting a solution will be found to keep the regions competing in the RaboDirect Pro12 under WRU control.

"From a proud Welshman's point of view I just hope things get resolved in Wales," he said.

"Am I worried about it? No I'm not to be quite honest with you; I'm just enjoying my time at Wasps.

"But I would like to think they will all pull together and do the right thing for Wales, because I'm sure they will at some stage.

"The politicians and the power brokers will do what they think is right.

"And there's enough people down there, enough quality people in Wales to pull together to get it right."

Young has backed Premiership Rugby's stance to withdraw from the European Rugby Cup-run Heineken Cup from next season, in a bid for fairer qualification and revenue distribution.

PRL is still pushing its rival Rugby Champions Cup, and now Welsh provincial umbrella body RRW is following suit.

There may be no solution to the European wrangles in sight, but Young said PRL was still right to force the issue to affect change.

"At the end of the day we all want a top-tier competition where all the countries are playing," he said. "But everyone has to earn the right to be there as well.

"You can't call it the best of the best if it's not.

"I'm certainly 100 per cent behind the things that the English clubs have put forward, I think it's reasonable, understandable and I think everybody else does as well."
