PENARTH Lawn Tennis Club is offering free ‘Only Girls Allowed’ sessions during Wimbledon fortnight as part of campaign supported by Tennis Wales to attract more women and girls to the sport.

The free sessions will be run at the club on Thursdays, June 26 and July 3, from 6.30-7.30pm. They are aimed at nine to15 year olds, and will be fun, sociable and energetic tennis sessions to music and will cater for all standards from complete beginners upwards. The club is also supporting the Lawn Tennis Association's Great British Tennis Weekend initiative, which will see tennis parks, clubs and venues across Britain open their courts to members of the public on various weekends over the summer.

On the weekend of June28-29, the Rectory Club will be encouraging local families to enjoy free taster sessions. On Saturday, June 28, free junior coaching sessions will be held from 9.30am until noon and will be followed by 'Family Time' from 12noon-2pm, when members of the public can go along to the club and try out facilities. Courts can be pre-booked and members of the club will be on hand to provide kit to play with and to provide information about the club. Then, on Sunday, June 29, the club will again be open to members of the public from 2-5pm for Sunday afternoon tea and social tennis.

Meanwhile, the club's ladies' teams have enjoyed a fantastic start to the summer season, with the Firsts and Seconds both unbeaten in the South Wales doubles leagues. The first team has secured wins in each of their first four matches of the season, while the Seconds remain unbeaten after six games.

The men's team secured their place in Aegon South Wales Division One for next season with their last two games including a 4-2 victory over Allt-yr-yn and a shoot out loss to Cardiff.

In the South Wales doubles league, the men's first team gained their first victory of the season with a 7-2 scoreline over Cardiff Thirds, while the second team played two games in four days and came away with a win and a draw to sit third in their division. The third team have won four of their five games and stand second in their division with a game in hand over the leaders.
