PENARTH Town's first team were in action last week playing away to Island Marine in the Vale Premiership. On the back of their last minute winner against St Athan the week before, they were hoping to build on that success and start on a run up the table.

Despite being on top for the first 10 minutes, it could not really have started much worse for the visitors when their defence failed to clear a nothing ball in the six yard box just to let Marine in for a tap in to take an early lead.

Town steadied themselves and started to string together passes and not long after Marine conceded a free kick just outside their penalty area. As at St Athan, Anthony Angove was given the responsibility of taking it and the result was the same, over the wall into the top corner - scores equal.

This gave Penarth real belief and they soon started to turn up the pressure. Ashley Scott broke through to score and put the visitors in front, he then turned provider to whip balls in for Angove's second and a lovely headed goal from Ryan Williams at the back post.

Paul Beedell then, not to be outdone, weighed in with another from a lovely through ball from Angove and then a great solo effort to finish it.

The home side managed to get one back to make it 5-2 only for Angove to hit a great strike for his hat trick and another fine ball from Scott gave Williams his second.

At half time Penarth was 7-2 up with Jonny Williams again controlling the midfield with help down the flank from Ashley Newcombe.

In the second half the Penarth back four of Jack Stansfield, Tristan Davies, James Williams and Ryan McCann were hardly troubled as Town by now were in complete control of the game. Stansfield and McCann were also now making forward runs, one of which set up Beedell for his second and then Ryan Williams to complete his hat trick. Luke Horwood had filled in at the Penarth goal and did very well. Marine scored a consolation goal towards the end.

So a comprehensive win of 9-3 for Penarth as a result of a superb team effort with every player working hard and contributing. Hopefully more of the same when they play another away game at Rhoose this coming weekend.
