ST CYRES’ girls recently played in a South Wales Basketball Tournament at the House of Sport, Cardiff. Their first opponents were Mary Immaculate, the girls started very brightly with some real attacking zeal from Carys Allen who scored several baskets in quick succession.

Evie Brown and Catrin Lewis made some very attacking run and St Cyres came out the comfortable winners.

In the second match the girls faced former Welsh champions, Porthcawl. St Cyres made a very positive start with baskets from Carys and Evie and Molly Owen-Ffoulkes found her scoring touch. Despite a great start, Porthcawl were too strong and were victorious.

In the last match against St Illtyds and qualification for the finals depended on this result. Cyres took an early lead and were too strong for their opponents.

Carys, Evie and Molly all scored and Ffion Haggerty and Lucy Barnett also added a basket each.

Throughout the day Rebecca Cummings, Jade Bishop and Alice Badle played really well and managed to win possession on several occasions despite being up against some girls who were two years older.

St Cyres have qualified for the finals in January and their thanks go to the Cardiff city team who organised the event.
