IT WAS a good week for the Sully Spartans Cricket team with two midweek wins taking them to the top of the Cardiff FTL and a win on Saturday also taking the team to the top of their division in the newly created South East Wales Cricket League.

Winning the toss on Monday, May 23, the Spartans elected to bat first against Cardiff Bay and after the early loss of Babloo, several players chipped in but then got out, and at 30 for five the team looked in trouble.

Sudesh (30 not out) and skipper Morgan (33 not out) then started to fix the damage and after the end of the 18 overs the Spartans had reached 110 for five and an 80 partnership had been recorded.

In response from the start the Spartans were on top with all bowlers making the batsmen struggle and in particular Bernard with two for four and Vishal two for 10, (new player Syed took his first wicket and a good catch) and at the end of the allotted overs the away team were 67 for seven and the Spartans had won by 43 runs.

On Thursday, May 26, the Spartans tackled old rival Glenwood with Sunny captaining the team and after winning the toss elected to bat first.

Sunny (31) and Saeed (27 ) were the pick of the Spartans batsmen until Sathish came in with a superb whirlwind cameo of 30 not out taking the total to 132 for six.

In response Glenwood had no answer to Vishal G who took four for eight ably assisted by Sandy taking his first wicket for the club (and also taking an excellent catch) and at the close the visitors were 112 for nine and victory went to the Spartans by 20 runs.

On Saturday, May 28, the Spartans took on Brynmawr at Wenvoe and again won the toss but skipper Morgan this time elected to bowl first, a decision which would prove to be the right one.

On a damp wicket, opening bowlers Sathish nine overs for 31 and Morgan with an excellent nine overs three for 24 restricted the visitors to 55 for three after 18 overs.

It did not get any better as Krishna T three for 13 off four overs and Vishal G four for 12 off four overs skittled the opposition out for 80, with Gupreet in his last game before returning home taking the last catch of the innings.

In reply Sudesh with 39 not out ably assisted by new player Saneesh 23 with a partnership of 54 and Sriijet 10 not out reached the target in 13 overs for the loss of one wicket and the Spartans had won by nine wickets.
